Cruising sailor turned part time calypsonian, Sylbert A. Jackson-Smith is a one man band. He is the arranger, singer, composer and musician. At the SSCA February lunch held at Joe's Pizza & Italian Resturant, The Mighty Yachtie launched his second CD album in person by singing a few songs.
Wise
Advice From De Islands,
the new album, is sung in English and is perfectly understandable to anyone who
is not familiar with the Trini version of the language. Like most good calypsos, the double meaning
is there, starting on the first track which is called “No Ring No Ting.”
The rhythm of the album is old time calypso, enough to have your feet tapping
or your waist shaking. It is not jump up music, this is explained in “Bumping
Carnival” where he claims to be
too old for jumping. The sound from
this CD is easy on the ears and even when played at low volume, the clarity is
there to be enjoyed. Tune your ears
into the background music, the artiste is playing all the instruments, but most
of all listen to the pan. Listen as it
gently weaves through the melody and then takes charge of most of the
choruses. You can purchase the album
