The Mighty
Yachtie is a calypsonian who writes music in the old calypso style of
yesteryear. I am also a one man band
and play most of the instruments you hear on the CDs. The rest of the instruments I provide from
a keyboard. My wife, Susanne,
sometimes accompanies me with the background chorus to provide a dynamic
effect. My music is full
of rhythm and interesting lyrics. Many
of my calypsos are written on the cruising lifestyle and some relay a message
that can be applied to anyone of any lifestyle. Many of my songs are derived from actual
events that are true although in some cases, I have applied a little artistic
license in order to add a little humor.
In 2001, we
entered a calypso competition put on by Boater’s Enterprise Ltd. at the Crews
Inn Complex at Chaguaramas in Trinidad.
We entered the competition as Smitty and the Blond Bombshells. We won the competition with my selection Call
Jesse, which went on to become a big hit among the cruising community in
Trinidad. Many cruisers came to me
with ideas for other calypsos dealing with the cruising lifestyle and I
compiled most of those in the first CD Calypsos For
Cruisers. In 2002, I was
asked to perform at the Taste of Carnival produced by Boater’s Enterprise
Ltd. and it was at that performance that I was introduced as The Mighty Yachtie. Since
then, I have produced four other CDs, Wise Advise
from de Islands, Hurricane, Sitting In The Cockpit and Welcome Aboard. I have also produced a partial Christmas
Collection containing three Christmas songs. More songs will be added in the near
future. Music from this collection is
only available through the digital download outlets. My
music is in the old calypso style of yesteryear full of rhythm and
interesting lyrics. All the lyrics
have derived from actual events that have taken place. Some are comical in nature and a few try to
provide a message. Click
